Bio - Singel 377
Hi, my name is Karst, born Amsterdammer for 39 years and graduated MA History International Relations at the UvA. I started my private tour and history consultancy company ‘Amsterdam1648’ in 2017 with the idea to be active at least till 2048. History has been a long ago discovered passion of mine, since youth I have been fascinated by our reality.
If you want to understand human history and have a better understanding of what drives this all, you found your guide. You knew the Greek meaning of history is ‘to acquire’?
Although Amsterdams history is special, it takes in only a small part of the grand ongoing story. Still, it holds a special place in my heart and I’m madly passionated to inform anybody who wants to listen. Personally I am an open and social person, love to read and eat, like to drink a beer and talk about anything!
I also have a beautiful wooden boat from 1926 which I have personally restored to a sailing monument in 2022 (RVEN 4952). Due to city policies I am not allowed to sail commercially, though I happily sail complementary when talking about life, the pursued of knowledge and the purpose
of existence.
The house at Singel 377, is historically called ‘twin house with vases’ and was build in 1730 (Monument number 5230). Both houses are typical craftsman canal houses in Hollandsche style with a French inspired Baroque gable neck. The three front doors give access to the two respective stores, while the middle door provided access to the upper floors for residences and storage.
Interesting both houses were build by two families, one publisher, one bookseller whom most likely formed a business-family relation and co-financed the construction. Also many lovely details are still conserved after 300 years, gladly give a tour when meeting you.
Also the ground floor is open for rental options like Pop-Up / short stay / day events etc. Please send an inquiry for more information.
Looking forward to meet you soon:)
